Career Pathways

A new Health Practitioner career structure allows more career opportunities and recognition of advanced, clinical, research and education roles and skills.

Entry level allied health practitioners appointed to positions requiring a minimum three year tertiary qualification of Degree or equivalent commence at level HP3.0 (Wage rate as at 1 Sept, 2008: $50,145). Those appointed to positions which require a minimum 4 year tertiary qualification of degree or equivalent will commence at level HP 3.1. (Wage rate as at 1 Sept., 2008: $54,438).

Senior positions at the HP4 level are offered in either particular disciplines, or in Team Leader roles managing a small number of professions in a particular health care area.  Positions at the HP5 – HP7 level require increasing levels of clinical, education, operational or strategic management expertise. Salary increments are commensurate with career stages.

Progression from one increment to the next within each of the HP levels 1-7, will be based on a satisfactory annual performance appraisal. Movement between levels will occur on application for a position and promotion in accordance with approved Government policies and procedures.

Within the HP classification structure, there are two streams between levels HP 3-7; a clinical and a management stream. HP level 8 denotes high level management positions, strategically managing allied health workforce services at a state-wide or district executive management level. At this level, appointment to remuneration pay points is subject to negotiation by the parties to the agreement.
