The benefits of cross-cultural training

We've explored the dangers of generalising about a culture. It is important to keep these dangers in mind as we further explore the Australian South Sea Islander culture.

The cultural patterns and sensitivities that are discussed throughout this workshop should not be used to define your Islander clients. Rather, use the information to help you gain a deeper understanding of each unique client.

Again, the best advice is to treat every one of your clients as an individual.

Considering the dangers of generalising, is cross-cultural training beneficial? Can it help to break down barriers?

Culture clash clearly illustrates the benefits of cross-cultural training. We find out what can happen if a health staff member is not aware of cultural patterns and sensitivities.
