Young Women and Alcohol Campaign

The Young Women and Alcohol Campaign aims to encourage young women aged 18 to 22 years to reduce harmful alcohol consumption by empowering them to make their own decisions about their drinking, and say no when they want to.

The campaign puts drinking less into perspective, highlighting to young women how good it feels to take control of their risky drinking, and that drinking less is not that significant in the context of young women’s friends and life choices.

The campaign was first developed in 2004 in response to research which showed that more young women in Queensland consumed alcohol at harmful levels than in other States. There have been three phases of the Young Women & Alcohol “Make up your own mind about drinking” Campaign implemented since 2004. A background paper provides information on these three phases, including evaluation results.

The latest phase of the campaign launched on Boxing Day 2007, promoting to young women, “It feels good to say no when you want to”. The campaign involves cinema, television, online, magazine, in-venue, outdoor advertising, with activity occurring until June 2007.

The ‘Feeling Good’ website provides information and assistance to young women to support them in taking control of their risky drinking.
