Alcohol and Drug Training and Resource Unit (ADTRU)

ADTRU is a unit within The Prince Charles Hospital Health Service District responsible for the provision of education and training, and resource materials on drugs and alcohol to health and related professionals throughout Queensland. ADTRU’s role has been more clearly defined as the provision of:

Clinically-relevant education and training, rather than primarily public health education

ADTRU provides a range of courses and seminars designed to educate the health worker in emerging issues within the alcohol and drug field. Seminars are videoconferenced to various rural and remote locations in Queensland, and are videotaped for interested parties.

Short courses, particularly those relevant to clinical service provision

Purpose designed and ongoing courses are conducted for individuals and groups, and are in accordance with best practice guidelines. Short courses are conducted on a range of clinically relevant topics and invites attendance by nursing, research, and general health workers.

Organisational and professional development

Clinical training and orientation for multidisciplinary staff is undertaken throughout the year. Grand rounds are held monthly to enable clinical case presentations to be openly discussed in a forum with multidisciplinary expertise. ADTRU has also established links with other government and non-government service providers to enhance the scope of professional development. Dual diagnosis has featured prominently as an emerging area for education and training for health workers.
