Key Priorities: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health

Reducing the burden of chronic disease for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Reducing the burden of chronic disease for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community across   the continuum of prevention (primary), early detection (secondary) and management (tertiary), particularly in relation to:

Improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander maternal and child health

Improving policy and program development and implementation across the continuum of prevention, early detection and management by working in partnership with key stakeholders to influence and advise on issues relating to:

Performance/Accountability

Ensuring key performance indicators are developed and incorporated into the key priority areas and administering and monitoring these areas.

Leadership

Providing strategic leadership and increasing knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health issues throughout government.

Workforce and infrastructure

Advocating for the development of a Queensland Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment strategy to recruit and retain a stronger Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce within the health system.

Provide strategic advice regarding the enhancement and ongoing maintenance of information systems (eg. FERRETT) that support improved data collection, analysis and clinical practice to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes.

Partnership

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Unit works in partnership with communities and Governments to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Queensland by:
