How to breastfeed

Positioning is how the baby is held/positioned at the breast. Attachment is the amount of breast tissue in the baby’s mouth during a breastfeed.  Many early breastfeeding problems can be avoided if the baby is well attached to the breast.

Statement saying If mother thinks baby is not attached well break babys seal on the breast with a clean finger and try again

3. The chin should be the first part on the breast, with a wide open mouth, and the tongue down

4.  Mother can gently help baby across to the breast with the arm that is supporting the baby’s body, sometimes it helps for them to hold the breast the baby is going to feed on with the other hand

Positioning

There are many different options for positioning both mother and baby while breastfeeding, including lying and sitting.  Mothers should be encouraged to experiment until they find a feeding position that is comfortable and works well for them and their baby. As they get more used to breastfeeding it gets easier to feed in different positions
