The Wide Bay Health Service Districts’ Safety, Quality and Risk Management Unit will  be guided by the Queensland Health clinical governance principles:

The overall objectives of the Wide Bay Health Service District - Safety, Quality and Risk Management Unit are underpinned by the National Safety and Quality Council. The objectives will be achieved by:

Building capacity of the Wide Bay Health Service District to deliver safer  patient  outcomes:

• Clinical incident training and analysis
• Ensuring Intended Surgery Pilot
• Open Disclosure Pilot
• Infection Control Systems
• Clinical Audit

Improving the use of data and performance information to promote care:

• Use of Transition and other systems for decision making and benchmarking purposes
• Use of clinical and performance indicators to measure outcomes
• Integrating ACHS Measures for routine performance measurement
• Clinical Audit
• Integrating Strategy and Performance

Promoting consumer and community involvements in improvements in health care:

• Patient liaison service – coordinating complaints and consumer feedback
• Consumer representation on specified committees
• Open Disclosure Pilot
• Patient Surveys and Feedback

Leading practice improvements in the following areas:

• Ensuring Intended surgery project
• Infection Control Systems

 Building awareness and understanding of safety and quality issues:

• Education programs
• HEAPS and RCA training

Raising risk awareness:

• Risk identification and analysis training
• Maintenance, management and support of risk registers
• Consumer Feedback
• Clinical Services Capability Framework

Management and Implementation of policies that support clinical and corporate  governance:

• Assistance in the Development and Maintenance of District policies and procedures
• Information provision about when legislation updates occur

Increasing effective safety and quality governance and investment:

• Regular review, analysis and measurement of district governance procedures
• Review and integration of relevant State, National and International safety and quality initiatives

Developing strategic partnerships and future directions

• Initiate relationships to support and foster safety and quality within the District
