Division of Surgery, Cairns Base Hospital

About our Department

Cairns Base Hospital is the major Surgery referral centre for Cairns and Far North Queensland.  Most General Surgical, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology and Maxillo-facial procedures can be performed here.  The hospital specialists also visit smaller regional and remote towns across the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service to see outpatients and perform minor surgery e.g. Innisfail, Atherton and Mareeba. Inter HHS outreach to Weipa, Thursday Island and Cooktown are also performed regularly.

GP Referral Information

The Division of surgery conduct various outpatient services, including General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery and Ophthalmology. Access to these services is via a GP referral. Once the department receives these referrals it is then prioritised in order of urgency and appropriately allocated to the relevant medical team.
