Process Driver 4 - Rights and Responsibilities
Reflecting
What do we know already?
Questions to ask
-
How have participants experienced rights and responsibilities in the past?
-
Were the rights and responsibilities of belonging to various groups ever spoken about or written down (eg rules of association etc)?
-
Were there any unspoken rules or ways of working? How did you know about them? What occurred that lead you to think this was part of belonging to that group?
Record your response to these questions.

Interpreting
Why is it important to us?
Questions to ask
-
What effect did the spoken or unspoken rights and responsibilities of belonging to other groups have on the way those groups worked or the things those groups produced?
-
How did this experience make the participants feel?
-
Think about your personal reaction to belonging to that group. Do you think this was typical of belonging to that group? Did others have different opinions?
-
Have you heard of other groups? Did they work better or worse than the one you were involved with? How do you know? What can we learn from others? Can we gather more information like written documents or reports to help us explore how others went about forming and working in successful groups?
Record your response to these questions.
Deciding
What will we do?

-
Would this group like to decide on a set of rights and responsibilities for participation in the group?
-
How would the group like to set these rights and responsibilities?
-
What would this set of rights and responsibilities look like? Who would they refer to?
-
How will we make sure the rights and responsibilities are kept?
Record your response to these questions.
Acting
Let's do it!
Questions to ask
-
I am responsible for my actions; therefore, how would my actions affect my rights and responsibilities? What would the consequences be for others and me?
-
I can use my experiences, support, goodwill and skills. How can I make room for other people's experiences, values etc?
-
I am finding a way to attend the timetabled meetings.
-
I am finding the best way to tell others what I am doing and for them to tell their stories to me.
-
I want to know how my actions and those of others have made a difference, what these changes are and how they are valued by everyone who is affected by them. I am reviewing my work and the work of others every month and others are reviewing my work every month too.
Record your response.

How did it go?
