The $446 million Cairns Base Hospital redevelopment will result in a bigger and better hospital for the region, with an additional 168 beds by 2014.

The car park redevelopment is the first stage in a comprehensive redevelopment and is expected to be completed by early 2010.
Construction of Block D, accommodating new clinical services, will begin in early 2010.
Far North Queenslanders will no longer have to travel to Townsville or Brisbane to receive radiation treatment.
