Become an authorised RN Pap smear provider

Have you considered becoming an authorised Registered Nurse Pap Smear Provider (RN PSP)?
RN PSPs are important to the continued success of the Queensland Cervical Screening Program.

Why become an authorised RN PSP?

How do I apply to become an authorised RN PSP?
To become an authorised RN PSP you must be a Registered Nurse and:

  1. undertake a training course that has be accredited by the Royal College of Nursing, Australia (RCNA).
  2. once the course has been successfully completed, you will need to review the application kit (download in smaller sections Section A, Section B) and complete an application form (download in smaller sections Section A, Section B ). The application kit including the form can also be obtained by contacting the Queensland Cervical Screening Program Clinical Nurse Consultant on (07) 3234 1596. Completed applications should be forwarded to the address below. Applications must include certified copies of the current Queensland Nursing Council Practicing Certificate and the Pap Smear Course Certificate. Completed applications should be forwarded to:

      Queensland Cervical Screening Program
      GPO Box 48
      Brisbane  QLD  4001
  3. once received, your application is then reviewed and you will be contacted by the Clinical Nurse Consultant.

Where do I attend the accredited courses?
In Queensland courses are run by Family Planning Queensland and North Queensland Workforce Unit. To contact the course co-ordinators:-

Continuing competence reviews for authorised RN PSPs
Continuing competence reviews are conducted on RN PSPs every 3 years to ensure they are clinically competent and up-to-date with current practice. This will ensure that authorisations remain current. You will be sent an application form for continuing competency every 3 years by the Queensland Cervical Screening Program.
