Why build a new hospital?
Bringing these services of the Royal Children's Hospital and the Mater Children's Hospital together into a single new entity is an important milestone in the development of specialised paediatric services in Queensland. As our paediatric services become more highly specialised, there are major benefits to be had from a single, unified service.
-
Clinical expertise will be concentrated and duplication of equipment and resources avoided. This will result in improved services for children, young people and their families.
-
Children and young people with congenital and acquired heart disease will be cared for in a tertiary children's hospital which is consistent with world best practice.
-
For the first time, the new hospital will also treat young people up to the age of 18 years and provide specialised services delivered in a way that meets the particular needs of this age-group.
-
Queensland Children's Hospital will be co-located with an adult hospital and maternity hospital.
