A brand new hospital
Why build a new hospital?
Bringing the services of the Royal Children's Hospital and the Mater Children's Hospital together into a single new entity is an important milestone in the development of specialised paediatric services in Queensland. As our paediatric services become more highly specialised, there are major benefits to be had from a single, unified service.
-
Clinical expertise will be concentrated and duplication of equipment and resources avoided. This will result in improved services for children, young people and their families.
-
Children and young people with congenital and acquired heart disease will be cared for in a tertiary children's hospital, which is consistent with world best practice.
-
The new hospital will treat young people up to the age of 16 years.
-
Queensland Children's Hospital will be co-located with an adult hospital and maternity hospital.
