- performing hand hygiene before and after patient contact
- using personal protective equipment
- following precautionary measures
- using aseptic techniques
- sharps safety
- environmental cleaning with attention to detail
- appropriate antibiotic prescribing
- reviewing infection prevention and control data as a quality improvement activity
- regularly assessing the risk of infection
- managing linen and waste including blood or body fluid spills
Acting as an advocate for infection prevention and control. For example, they may:
- remind others to practice infection prevention and control
- encourage immunisation against vaccine preventable diseases
- promote infection prevention initiatives
- educate and coach others on correct practices
