The Centre for Healthcare Related Infection and Surveillance (CHRISP) has four (4) Recommended Practices to assist health service districts with implementing the Clean Hands are Life Savers Program which allow for adaptation by healthcare facilities to reflect local circumstances.

Hand Hygiene Policy Each Health Service District / Facility must have a written policy regarding hand hygiene and that policy must be implemented by 1 October 2007. |

Role Modelling & Peer Pressure Each Health Service District / Facility must adopt practices that motivate appropriate hand hygiene practices through role modelling and peer pressure from senior medical, nursing and administrative staff. |

Engaging Staff Each Health Service District / Facility must implement strategies to engage staff in the program. |

Measuring & Reporting Compliance Each Health Service District / Facility must implement mechanisms for measuring and reporting compliance with the hand hygiene policy. |
