Medical Leadership

To ensure that infection prevention and control is a high priority, the engagement of clinical leaders - specifically that of doctors is vital. Although many infection prevention programs world-wide have demonstrated success in increasing the hand hygiene compliance of non-medico healthcare workers, doctors have been slower to respond to these initiatives and continue to comply much less frequently.  This is concerning when taking into account that their non-compliance has been shown to have a negative effect on the hand hygiene practices of other healthcare workers.
