2012 Queensland Health Staff Influenza Vaccination Program

Many Health Care Workers (HCW) face not only a greater risk of exposure to the flu, but also risk transmitting it to vulnerable patients, who are more likely to suffer complications and serious health outcomes. Annual influenza vaccination is the most effective method in reducing exposure and transmission of the influenza infection not only to the individual but patients in their care, co-workers and family. As vaccinating healthcare workers has proven to significantly reduce staff absenteeism, decrease health expenditure, improve patient and employee safety and prevent workplace disruption, Queensland Health is committed to providing a comprehensive Influenza vaccination program for all employees across the state.

Working in a hospital does not make you immune to influenza and if you do catch it, you put vulnerable patients, family and co-workers at risk. What's more, high rates of absenteeism can lead to severe staff shortages just when you're needed most. Vaccination is your best defence.

To help protect yourself, your patient, your colleagues and your patients, get vaccinated.

The vaccine is available now and provided free to all Queensland Health employees.

For further information on how to access your local vaccination clinic please contact your Infection Control Department.
