Sterilizing Services

CHRISP has developed resources for sterilizing services in recognition of the importance of minimizing the risk of transmission of infection from patient to patient and to assist sterilizing services staff to perform their duties safely, efficiently and in accordance with Queensland Health Infection Control Guidelines and Australian/New Zealand Standard 4187: 2003 "Cleaning, Disinfecting and Sterilizing reusable medical and surgical instruments and equipment, and associated environments in health care facilities ".

These resources provide a framework for the minimum set of standards for sterilizing practice within Queensland Health facilities and include:

Standard Operating Procedures (including Workplace Skills Assessment)
Cleaning of Complex instruments
Sterilizing Services Audit tool (SSA)

How are these resources used:

As a resource for staff within sterilizing services
Help managers and staff recognise areas in which they are competent and those in which they still need to improve
Identify problem areas where an individual or the department requires further assistance and training
