Surveillance

The objective of the CHRISP Surveillance program is to establish and refine a standardised validated surveillance system in twenty five (25) Queensland public hospitals and provide aggregation and analysis of de-identified data to Queensland Health.

Goals

Provide guidance and support to Queensland Health facilities in developing standardised surveillance and analysis methods that allow timely recognition and intervention of infection problems.

Collect surveillance data to:

• Enable a valid estimation of the magnitude of nosocomial infections in Queensland Health facilities.
• Permit recognition of trends in infection rates, antimicrobial resistance and nosocomial pathogens.

Monitor the trends in Queensland Health employee exposure to blood and body fluids so as to:

• Measure the extent of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious substances among healthcare workers;
• Measure occupational exposure to HIV, HBV and HCV;
• Establish risk factors to exposure to blood and body fluids among health care workers;
• Provide data for a national database.
