Allied Health Health Clinical Education and Training Unit (AHCETU)

The Allied Health and Oral Health Clinical Education and Training Unit was established in 2008 in response to the Final Report of the Ministerial Taskforce on Clinical Education and Training (March 2007) (please see the ClinEdQ publications page for the full document including appendices). In 2009 the unit became part of Clinical Education and Training Queensland (ClinEdQ), coinciding with the formation of a separate Oral Health Education and Training Unit.

In response to the report’s recommendations, the role of the Allied health Clinical Education and Training Unit  (AHCETU) is to set up ongoing frameworks for the clinical education and training of Queensland Health allied health professionals and their support workforce, throughout the career continuum

The goal of safe, effective and high-quality health care for all Queenslanders depends on sustainable learning systems for clinicians and clinical support staff. The unit’s mission is to reinforce clinical education and training as core business for the allied health workforce.

This workforce is comprised of 15 separate disciplines, each with its own special features and unique requirements for clinical education and training.

Understanding that, the first task of AHCETU has been to investigate and analyse the learning needs and career development of each group, to identify gaps in current programs and to design strategies to fill these gaps. Following this, the scope of practice of each discipline for the particular caseload of Queensland Health is being defined, and a clinical capability framework designed which will form the basis of future initiatives and support new models of care.

Other roles of the unit are:

By forging strong links between service providers, higher education providers, Vocational Education and Training providers, professional bodies and Queensland Health, we hope to improve not only quality of care, but also employment satisfaction and retention rates across the allied health workforce.
