CliPSS does not accept referrals where there are clearly health issues impacting performance. However, it is recognised that significant health problems can go unrecognised by clinicians and their employers.
It is important that practitioners are not subject to a performance assessment if the primary issue is a health problem. For this reason, every clinician who is case managed by CliPSS undergoes a full health screen by appropriately qualified medical, occupational health and psychology professionals before proceeding to full performance assessment.
These screening examinations include:
If any concerns are identified during the screening examinations, full health assessments in the relevant areas will be undertaken.
If a health problem is identified, the clinician will be provided with information and support to seek treatment. If the identified medical condition is the likely cause of the clinical performance concerns, the Health Assessment and Monitoring Program of the Medical Board will be notified and the CliPSS process will be considered closed.
Once the health concern has been treated however, the clinician may be able to re-enter the CliPSS performance assessment process.
Where interpersonal conflict or workplace behaviours are an element of the basis of concern, a more detailed assessment by an occupational psychologist might be required.
