The purpose of a Performance Assessment (PA) is to observe the clinician in his/her own work environment using real clinical cases. The PA assesses whether the clinician’s performance is provided safely and at a level consistent with the position in which he/she has been employed.
A CliPSS Case Manager is appointed to work with the clinician throughout the CliPSS assessment process.
Once the clinician has provided his/her consent to proceed, a Performance Assessment Panel is convened. This Performance Assessment Panel consists of the CliPSS Case Manager and two (2) trained CliPSS Assessors. CliPSS Assessors are respected senior clinicians who work in the area in which the clinician practices and with fellowship of the relevant specialty college.
An initial questionnaire, completed by both the clinician and the referring party, will inform the design of the assessment process.
The PA is conducted by the Performance Assessment Panel utilising a variety of tools as determined by the information gathered from the questionnaire and may include:
| 1. | A Health Assessment |
| 2. | Medical Records Review (random selection) |
| 3. | A General Interview |
| 4. | Observed Practice |
|
|
- Consultations – Clinical Evaluation Exercise (CEX) |
| - Procedures – Procedural Evaluation Exercise (PEX) | |
| 5. | Facilities Inspection |
| 6. | Interviews with Colleagues nominated by both the referring party and the clinician |
| 7. | Clinical Practice Interviews based on real and hypothetical cases |
| 8. | Supplementary Assessment eg Clinical Simulation (when and where applicable) |
The findings from the various structured assessment methods are used to inform development of an individualised Performance Support Plan.
It is important to note that not all of the above assessment tools apply to every clinician– CliPSS ensures that the assessment plan is personalised and developed in consultation with the clinician.
