The Cancer Helpline

Toll Free number: 13 11 20    [Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 5.00pm]

This service is a telephone information and support service of The Cancer Council Queensland. Trained staff provide information about various types of cancer and its treatment, as well as details about prevention and early detection. Booklets, information sheets, videos and other relevant resources are also available to callers.

Palliative Care Information Service

The Palliative Care Information Service provides information and links to local support services for the terminally ill and their carers as well as support for general practitioners and clinical nurses with access to experienced palliative care medical practitioners in participating hospitals.

Commonwealth Carer Resource Centre

Three information resources have been prepared to support carers up to, during, and after the palliative care stage of an illness:

Supporting Carers Booklet for carers to share with family, friends, service providers, or an employer about their needs and ways they can be supported.

Loss and Grief Fact Sheet around loss and grief issues experienced by carers.
Palliative Care Fact Sheet talks to carers about their feelings and needs, and available options.

These resources are free and are also available in Chinese, Vietnamese, Italian and Greek.

Children and Young People's Bereavement Centre

The Children and Young People's Bereavement Centre was set up to support school-aged children and young people aged 5 - 17 years who have been through the experience of a close family member dying from a terminal or long-term illness. The Centre is open to all families in the greater Brisbane region and specifically offers counselling, grief and loss groups, school supports and community education.
