Palliative Care for the Indigenous Community

Australia's palliative care community increasingly recognises the importance of an awareness of cultural issues when providing services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

CPCRE is working closely with the Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA), through PEPA National Manager Dr Mick Adams, and PEPA Indigenous Project Officer Darryl Lingwoodock to:

PEPA provides placements with specialist palliative care teams, and workshops, for interested Indigenous Health Workers. Further information for Indigenous Health Workers about the workshops or a PEPA placement:

CPCRE has also worked closely with the Indigenous Education Officer for Cancer Council Queensland, to deliver palliative care information to local Indigenous communities, and to facilitate palliative care providers gaining greater knowledge of relevant Indigenous beliefs and practices.
