The Allied Health Professional Enhancement Program (AHPEP)

The Allied Health Professional Enhancement Program (AHPEP) is a statewide project which has been implemented across Queensland Health. AHPEP provides Allied Health professionals across Queensland Health with improved access to quality professional development that aims to improve health outcomes for rural/remote communities. AHPEP has been the subject of a review and the final report is available from http://qheps.health.qld.gov.au/ahwac/docs/ahpepreview.pdf.

The Rural Connect Program

The Rural Connect Program provides rural/remote practitioners specifically sole practitioners, new graduates and new Queensland Health employees with access to a formal mentoring program. Allied Health staff also have the opportunity to become a mentor and access the training and support provided for all mentors in the Rural Connect Program.

Clinicians Knowledge Network (CKN)


The Clinicians Knowledge Network (CKN) is a broad based clinical information system that provides Queensland Health clinicians with access to clinical information resources at the point of care. The aim of CKN is to increase the quality of patient care by providing access to up-to-date information to doctors, nurses and allied health professionals throughout Queensland Health. The new CKN website is now available. If you haven't visited it lately check it out now - http://ckn.health.qld.gov.au. Accessed via the Queensland Health web site and provides access at work and at home to databases and journals as well as a variety of other resources. The Cunningham Centre provides training in the use of CKN to rural clinicians.


Professional Support

The Allied Health Professional Support Capacity Building Project is an initiative of the Allied Health Workforce Advice and Coordination Unit and is funded by the Queensland Health People Plan 2008/2009. This project proposes the adoption of the Allied Health Professional Support Framework. This will guide implementation of professional support options within the Allied Health workforce.


Allied Health Rural and Remote Training and Support Program

The Allied Health Rural and Remote Training and Support (AHRRTS) program is an exciting new program commencing in 2009. The aim of the AHRRTS program is to increase the provision and coordination of clinical education and professional support activities to Allied Health Professionals working within Queensland Health in rural and remote areas of the state.
