Aged Care Redevelopment Program

Development of a Modular Design for State Government Residential Aged Care Facilities

The Modular Design is a tailored architectural design for residential aged care facilities for Queensland Health.  It has been developed for Queensland Health's Model of Care for residential aged care services.

It will be used for all "new-build" and upgrades in the Aged Care Redevelopment Program.  All major renovations and extensions will also be based on the Modular Design.

Work on the tailored design commenced in May 2001.  A Design Reference Group, which included clinical representatives, was established and Project Services, Department of Public Works was commissioned for the task.

After consultations with Directors of Nursing in State Government Residential Aged Care Facilities, and review by experienced architectural firms, the Modular Design was signed-off for use in all Queensland Health aged care projects.
