Benefits & Salary

Queensland Health dentists are paid a competitive salary (see full Dental Officers Wage Rates table) and enjoy a wide range of benefits including:

Hours of duty

Dentists generally work a 38 hour week. This can be a normal five day week, 19 day month or a nine day fortnight arrangement.

Leave

Annual leave — four weeks (pro rata) paid leave per year.
Sick leave — 10 days (pro rata) paid sick leave per year. This is cumulative.
Parental leave — includes maternity, paternity and adoption leave. Up to 52 weeks maternity/adoption leave, 12 weeks paid maternity/adoption leave and paternity leave of up to one week on full pay is available to eligible employees.
Long service leave — leave on full pay of 1.3 weeks per year of service after completion of 10 years of service. Full details of leave entitlements will be provided on employment.

Overtime

Our staff are either paid (varying from time-and-a-half to double-time-and-a-half), or can accumulate time off in lieu for hours worked in excess of ordinary hours, including those worked on public holidays.

Superannuation (pension)

Generous employer contribution to superannuation of up to 12.5 per cent of your annual salary is provided. Employee contributions are compulsory for permanent employees.

Salary packaging

As a health service district staff member you can access attractive salary packaging arrangement of up to $17,000 grossed up per annum.

Rural and Remote area allowance

In recognition of the challenge and change in a rural and remote area, Oral Health Therapists, Dental Technicians and Dental Prosthetists are paid an identified amount up to $100 per week dependant upon the location.

Permanently located Dentists are paid an allowance (pro rata) of up to 30 per cent of base salary per year.

Accommodation

The health service district may offer an accommodation subsidy. This may be time limited.
