Registration

To practise medicine in Queensland or Australia, medical practitioners are required to be registered appropriately with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency's (AHPRA) Medical Board of Australia (MBA).

There are a range of registration categories under which a doctor can practice medicine in Australia.

Australian or New Zealand trained graduates may be eligible for:


Medical practitioners wanting to work in Australia who have completed their primary medical degree in a country other than Australia and New Zealand and have not been awarded the full Australian Medical Council Certificate or full Specialist recognition with an Australian Speciality College should apply for Limited Registration. To gain Limited Registration you must meet the criteria of one of the 3 following pathways.

AHPRA's standard processing time is 4-6 weeks from date of receipt at their office before the application will be initially assessed.  Attaining full registration may take longer dependent on the individual circumstances of the applicant and/or additional information which may be requested at AHPRA's discretion.
