Electronic referrals solution

  
The Queensland Health electronic referral solution provides General Practitioners (GPs) with the ability to send a patients’ referral electronically to Queensland Health specialist outpatients departments, rather than by facsimile or mail.

This project has been successfully delivered in collaboration with General Practice Queensland.
  

What do electronic referrals mean for patients?

  • Improved patient care as the electronic referral will allow faster, more reliable and consistent information exchanges between health providers.
  • Improved consistency and security of information.
  • Increased visibility of private and public health care options at Queensland Health facilities. 
      

What do electronic referrals mean for GPs?

  • Access to an electronic, standardised template that can be installed directly into the practice management system.
  • Existing messaging agent can be used to securely transmit completed referrals.
  • Less time to complete due to the referral being automatically populated from GP records.
  • Improved visibility of private and public health care options to offer patients.
     

What do electronic referrals mean for Queensland Health clinicians and supporting staff?

  • Ability to receive and view referrals electronically.
  • Increased compliance to the minimum referral information, resulting in quicker and more enhanced decision making.
  • Increased effectiveness and efficiency of categorising and triaging referrals.
