Frequently asked questions

How will the Queensland Health eHealth Program help me?

  • For patients - The Queensland Health eHealth Program is delivering electronic solutions which are improving health care. You will have better access to specialist care services, your waiting times will be reduced and you won't have to make as many trips to see your health care providers.
  • For Queensland Health clinicians and supporting staff - You will have access to more complete and accurate patient histories, thereby improving safety and reducing the likelihood of adverse events due to allergies and drug reactions and unnecessary duplication of tests.
  • For non-Queensland Health health care practitioners - Better information management will allow for improved sharing of information within Queensland Health and to external care providers — supporting greater collaboration and new models of care. It will provide you with access to more complete and accurate patient information, improving safety and reducing the likelihood of adverse events due to allergies and drug reactions.

What is eMR, ieMR and PCEHR?

  • eMR - An electronic Medical Record (eMR) is a system that manages clinical information for your  health care and treatment via a computer. It replaces many of the paper forms existing in the paper medical record and makes the information available in a secure way to clinicians from more than one location.
  • ieMR - Queensland Health’s integrated electronic Medical Record (ieMR) Program will provide Queensland Health an eMR solution which allows your health care information to be collected and shared across hospitals, community health centres, general practitioners and specialist services across the state.  The vision of Queensland Health’s ieMR Program is to enable a patient-centric focus to health care delivery across a networked model of care.
  • PCEHR - The National eHealth Transition Authority’s (NeHTA) Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) System allows both you and your healthcare providers access to a single view of your health care information. The NeHTA was established by the Australian, State and Territory governments to develop better ways of electronically collecting and securely exchanging health information. For more information about the PCEHR, please visit: http://www.nehta.gov.au/ehealth-implementation/what-is-a-pcher.
