Animal management relates to managing domestic animals in communities and also feral animals such as pigs and wild horses.

Dogs are the most common domestic animal, but people may also keep cats, horses, goats, sheep, poultry or pigs, depending on the local laws of your council. The main responsibilities of Animal Management Workers (AMWs) and local councils are to see that these animals:

Cruelty to animals

AMWs do not usually deal with cases of cruelty to animals. If you think an animal is being hurt or not properly looked after, you might need the advice or help of animal welfare agencies, such as the RSPCA and the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries.
