Public policy - animal management

Councils are primarily responsible for developing and implementing animal management policies in their communities.

Some State Government agencies are involved in making animal management policies that may affect local governments.

These agencies include:

Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries - Biosecurity Unit (for animal welfare and ethics and pest management)
Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation (Model Local Laws)
Environmental Protection Agency (pollution, native animal protection)
Department of Natural Resources and Mines (pest management)
Queensland Health (for issues relating to public health)

Other organisations involved in developing policy on animal management include the Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) and the Local Government Association of Queensland.
