Designated pest control resources and programsLocal environmental health programs should be funded by your council. Your task as an EHW is to use your budget in the best way to protect and promote the health of your community. This could include working with other people in your council, using equipment and vehicles in the council and working with the community. Your local Environmental Health Coordinator can help you plan your programs.
For more complex programs, you might need to take the “shared responsibility” approach involving EHOs from other local government or Queensland Health.
If you don’t have legal powers to carry out certain tasks, an EHO from your local Population Health Unit will need to be involved. You’ll need to speak with them to work out if they can help or not.
Where possible, try to recover part or all of the cost of a program from those who benefit. For example, your council could charge for disposing of wastes.
For some programs, funding might be available through agencies of the Commonwealth or State Government (eg. DATSIP).
You can help build a bank of resources for EHWs in indigenous communities by contributing to this site. If you have developed innovative ways of using local resources, or found useful outside resources, please contact the Queensland Health Environmental Health Branch about having the information placed here.
