Statewide Clinical Coordination and Retrieval Service
The Queensland Emergency Medical System Coordination Centre (QCC) commenced statewide operations in January 2006 to directly contribute to the strategic quality goal of improving the coordination of health services and programs, in collaboration with health service districts and other government and non-government agencies. The QCC provides clinical coordination services across a range of activities:

Scene/Pre-hospital rotary wing responses

Inter-facility rotary and fixed wing retrievals

Inter-facility fixed wing transport services

Regional road based resource disputation

Multiple casualty incidents
Key Roles
-
To provide high level advice on clinical care for patients requiring retrieval and transport to a higher level of care facility;

To identify the appropriate health facility destination, including critical care bed availability, as determined by the patients health care requirements;

To approve and authorise the transport and clinical escort needs of the patient to effect safe, efficient and effective patient retrieval services;

To task Queensland Health and external contracted retrieval services as required and review the clinical performance of that contracted service;

To liaise with Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), Royal Flying Doctor Service, Community Helicopter Providers and contracted retrieval services to ensure alignment of the transport vehicle and patient escort requirements, optimising patient care and safety;

To develop and implement Statewide clinical coordination policies and standard operating procedures.
The QCC is located across two sites in Queensland.
QCC Brisbane is located within the Brisbane Operations Centre of the QAS at Springhill. The QCC Brisbane provides:

One number call centre access for all Clinical Coordination referrals across Queensland with 24 hour on site Clinical Nurse Coordinators

24 hour QCC Communications Officers providing communication and logistic support for all Queensland aeromedical tasks

Medical Coordination services for Southern and Central Area Health Services and QAS Primary Response via on site and on call arrangements.
The QCC Brisbane is a dynamic environment with emphasis on state of the art computer/electronic technology. The QCC operations staff has ready access to this technology to aid in all facets of clinical coordination services.
QCC Townsville is located on The Townsville Hospital Campus, this purpose built operations facility provides Staff Specialist Medical Coordination services for the Northern Area Health Service and QAS Primary Response via on site and on call arrangements. The QCC Townsville is equipped with multiple state of the art communications technologies to provide a virtual link with the QCC Brisbane and capable of ensuring seamless clinical coordination and patient retrieval functionality across the state.
