The Queensland Basic Paediatric Training Network provides centralised recruitment, selection and allocation for doctors who want to start their first or second year of training.
The aim of the network is to:
- improve access to training
- broaden the clinical experience available to trainees
- increase the capacity for basic paediatric training across Queensland and in Darwin.
Trainees remain on the network for the duration of their basic training subject to ongoing satisfactory performance.
Training information session
An information session will be held on Tuesday 7 May 2024. Details will be provided shortly.
Education
The network supports and promotes paediatric education and training. This includes both the:
- Paediatric Written Examination Preparation Program (PWEPP) - a lecture series to support written exam candidates
- Paediatric Clinical Examination Preparation Program (PCEPP) - an annual program to support Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) paediatric clinical exam candidates.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply you must:
- hold general registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- be eligible for registration with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
- be commencing your first or second year of training in 2025
- be commencing your post graduate year three (PGY3) or above in 2025.
If you’re an overseas applicant, we will only consider your application if:
- your skills complement but do not replace the skills of the available local labour market
- the Australian applicant pool is insufficient to fill a skilled clinical vacancy.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Basic Paediatric Training Affirmative Pathway
The purpose of the Pathway is to promote the success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander junior doctors in the Queensland Health workforce. Eligible applicants will be shortlisted for interview and if successful, will be allocated their first rotation and hospital preference.

You can apply for a position with the Queensland Basic Paediatric Training Network through the RMO campaign. Applications for the campaign are open Monday 5 June to Monday 3 July 2023. Late applications are not accepted.

To apply you will need to complete the clinical experience template [XLSX 52.38 KB] and the CV template [DOCX 30.84 KB] and upload both with your RMO application.
Participating facilities
Training will be hosted primarily at the following hospitals:
- Gold Coast University Hospital
- Queensland Children’s Hospital
- Townsville University Hospital.
There is also a requirement for trainees to rotate to an outer metropolitan or regional hospital for 12-month period during their 3 year pathway.
