Water fluoridation is endorsed by professional bodies around the world including the World Health Organization, the American Medical Association, Centers for Disease Control and the British Medical Association.
It is also supported by a number of Australia's peak health bodies, including the Australian Medical Association, the Australian Dental Association, the National Health and Medical Research Council and the Public Health Association of Australia.

Australia's National Oral Health Plan 2004-2013 sets as a high priority the extension of water fluoridation of public water supplies to communities across Australia with populations of 1000 or more. For more information go to www.ada.org.au.
The National Health and Medical Research Council has released an extensive review about the safety and effectiveness of water fluoridation. The review found water fluoridation to be safe and did not cause bone fractures, allergies, cancer or other health effects. For more information go to: http://www.nhmrc.gov.au/
