The State Government strongly supports water fluoridation and has allocated funding to support local councils to fluoridate water supplies since 2005.
Only Townsville/Thuringowa, Moranbah, Mareeba, Bamaga and Dalby provide fluoridated water in Queensland. Residents of some outback towns also benefit from fluoride, as there are sufficient levels in their natural water supplies.
