Our Reality |
About 60% of Queensland children suffer from tooth decay. That's more than any other state or territory, and every year more than 2000 Queensland children under the age of four have general anaesthetics and surgery to remove rotten teeth.
In Queensland, a 12-year-old can expect to experience 50% more tooth decay than a 12-year-old in South Australia, where children have similar access to school dental services and more than 80% of the population have access to water fluoridation.
Tooth decay is the second most costly diet-related disease in Australia with the same economic impact as heart disease and diabetes. In Queensland, millions and millions of dollars are spent on public dental treatment each year. Much of this disease could be prevented.
Fun Fact |
Each person's set of teeth is unique - much like their fingerprints - even in identical twins.
