Why do we need it?

Bad tooth imageWater fluoridation is needed to prevent tooth decay reaching epidemic proportions in Queensland.

Queenslanders suffer higher levels of tooth decay than other Australians, and less than five per cent of our people currently have access to fluoridated water. International experts agree that water fluoridation is the safest and most cost effective way to reduce tooth decay.

 Unknown...

Most Queenslanders don't know how poor their or their children's oral health really is.

 Fairy Fact

A child gets about $40 from the tooth fairy -if their fairy leaves a $2 coin under their pillow for every one of their 20 baby teeth.

 Fairy Fact

While several theories of the tooth fairy's origin exist, the most commonly accepted belief by academics is the fairy's development from the tooth mouse, depicted in an 18th century French language fairy tale. In La Bonne Petite Souris, a mouse changes into a fairy to help a good queen defeat an evil king, by hiding under his pillow to torment him and knocking out all his teeth.

What our poor dental health is costing us

The Queensland Government will spend millions and millions of dollars on public dental health this financial year, more than any other state or territory.

Yet, we continue to suffer the highest rates of tooth decay in the country.

The costs to you are great, both financial and social.  Directly or indirectly, all Queenslanders are paying for our epidemic of tooth decay.
