In 2006, the Queensland Government commissioned a review of the Mental Health Act 2000 (Qld). This review was conducted by Brendan Butler AM SC (Member of the Order of Australia, Senior Counsel).
The review resulted in the report Promoting Balance in the Forensic Mental Health System, which made a number of recommendations. One of these was that it was necessary to improve access to information and understanding of the forensic mental health system for members of the general public. Based upon this funding was provided to implement the Community Awareness Initiative. This website and the accompanying resources are part of that initiative.
