Forensic mental health community information

What treatment may a person recieve?

When a person has been placed on a forensic order, the mental health team, together with the person, prepare a treatment plan. All people, whether being treated on an involuntary basis or not, have a treatment plan.

The aim of the treatment plan is:

The treating mental health team reviews the treatment plan regularly through clinical assessment and team meetings.

People on a forensic order must be monitored closely and can be re-admitted to a mental health facility if they are not complying with the conditions of their limited community treatment.

All people under a forensic order are also automatically reviewed by an independent body, the Mental Health Review Tribunal, every six months. However, reviews can be requested by the person, the person's representative or the Director of Mental Health at any time. One of the decisions that can be made at this review is whether someone with a mental illness should remain on a forensic order. The aim of the review is to make decisions about whether a person needs to continue having involuntary treatment under the Mental Health Act 2000.
