Car parking
The Gold Coast University Hospital master plan identifies a multi-storey Western car park, with an Eastern car park as a future initiative.
SurePark has been selected to build the first car park, with construction commencing in August 2011.The initial 2 229 space car park will incorporate a strategy used both nationally and internationally to fund necessary infrastructure.
Under their agreement with Queensland Health, SurePark will operate a B.O.O.T. scheme car park. This means they build, own, operate and then transfer the facility to the Queensland Government after an agreed period of time.
As part of the 'future proofing' of our plans to ensure that we grow in line with the needs of the community, provision of a future Eastern car park will be prompted by demand and the development of the co-located Private Hospital.
| Short-stay parking options
In addition to the public parking available in the car parks, short term parking spaces have been allocated next to the cancer services unit to offer greater convenience for those transporting patients for short stay medical treatments, including radiation therapy and dialysis. |
|
| Set down areas
The Hospital design allows for passengers to be conveniently dropped off at both the front and rear of the main building, without disrupting traffic flow through the site. |
|
| Emergency vehicle bays
Ambulances and other emergency service vehicles have been designated ample spaces to ensure ease of access for urgent admissions to the emergency department. |
Alternative transport options
| Public transport
Gold Coasters can enjoy easy access to the hospital using public transport, with a bus stop and future light rail station virtually seeing you to the hospital's front door. A designated taxi zone will offer a further transport option. |
|
| Healthy options
We are making it easy for staff and community members to stay healthy using active transport options. The new parking facility will include bicycle parking spaces and 'end of trip' facilities for those using pedal power to get to work. |
