Families, Women's and Children

The Family, Women's and Children's Division provides Obstetric, Gynaecology, Neonatology and Paediatric services at the Gold Coast Hospital. Elective gynaecology surgery is provided at Robina Hospital. A Community Child Health clinic is also based at Robina Hospital. Community based services include Child Health, School Health and Breast Screening.

 

 

Obstetrics

Gold Coast Hospital services up to 3500 births annually. Since July 2005 delivery rates have increased suddenly and with the advent of a new birth centre deliveries are expected to steadily increase, well above expected population increases.

Gynaecology

Gynaecology surgical services are conducted at both Gold Coast and Robina Hospitals. Elective and emergency caesarean sections are undertaken at Gold Coast Hospital. A new operative cancer gynaecological service is envisaged in the future.

A Special Care Nursery (SCN) is located at the Gold Coast Hospital - Level 2 (infants born 32 weeks or more).

Breast Screening

Breastscreening Queensland provides a service to detect unsuspected breast cancer, at the earliest possible stage, using free and high quality screening mammography for women living in the Gold Coast and hinterland areas.
