Staff testimonials
Physician (Specialist) - Ann Rudden
After dealing with the legal and financial issues that accompany practicing medicine in the United States, Ann felt more like a business person than a health care professional. In 1998, Ann came to the Gold Coast on a six month contract – and she’s been here ever since.
“Since moving to the Gold Coast, I’m finding I’m enjoying life more. Plus, I’m actually earning and saving more than I would back in the US. Combine that with the low cost of living here and I’m definitely enjoying a better quality of life.”
Anaesthetist - Jeff Gadsden
Jeff spent eight years training in Canada’s cold climate before deciding that he wanted to live and work in a more exotic environment which provided him with professional challenges.
“I always wanted to spend some quality time in a tropical place, and now I live minutes from the ocean and some of the world’s greatest beaches. The volume and variety of cases and procedures I see help to keep my skills current. My qualifications transferred easily and the staff I work with form a team I enjoy being a part of.”
Nurse (Emergency Department) - Brett Sellars
Brett moved to the Gold Coast from nearby Brisbane when he found out about the multitude of nursing positions available. Now he can combine his professional career with his love of surfing.
“We have one of the busiest emergency departments in Australia. Its incredible and can be full-on, but I know that every day I’m making a difference. The beach is right there which means when the day ends, I can just grab my board and unwind.”
Occupational Therapist - Sarah Lucas
Sarah did a student placement at the Gold Coast Hospital, but wanted to see more of the world. After spending some time in London, she returned to the Gold Coast to pursue her career in Occupational Therapy.
“After a few years of miserable weather and constant traffic, I realised how much I missed living on the Gold Coast. There’s a genuine passion in everyone working on the Gold Coast. It’s the lifestyle I think. We’re more relaxed, but we still know how to get the job done.”
Admin Supervisor and Sterilising Technician - Ken and Amanda Orr
Ken and Amanda live on the Gold Coast with their teenage son, Jeremy. To them, the Gold Coast is the perfect, family-friendly place and provides Jeremy with plenty to keep him active and entertained.
Ken: “The Gold Coast is certainly family friendly. With great schools, excellent outdoor activities for kids. My son likes to get into skateboarding, swimming and just hanging out at the beach. There’s so much potential here - its a great place to bring up children.”
