Disaster Management

Picture of emergency workerThe cornerstone of disaster management is an effective, complete and up-to-date disaster/emergency plan. These plans allow a workplace to prepare, respond to and recover from threatening situations. In the formulation of the workplace disaster/emergency plan, it is imperative that documents such as the Disaster Management Act 2003, Fire Services Act, Building Act, and AS 3745 'Emergency Controls' be given critical consideration and are utilised in a manner specific to the requirements of the individual workplace.

Local councils have a local Disaster Management Plan and individual tourist facilities are advised to consult the Council’s Disaster Management Executive Officer when developing their plans and to then lodge their plan with the local Council. The Council can be contacted for further details and advice. Contact the area office of Emergency Management Queensland, Department of Emergency Services for assistance with development of disaster management plans.

Each council reports to the District Disaster Management Group in the event of a natural disaster or major emergency.

Local Disaster Management Group meetings occur on a regular basis and Local Councils have details of upcoming events.

See the Services Directory for local contact details of the above agencies.
