Drugs and Poisons

PoisonsThis page refers to Scheduled Drugs and Poisons used in medical or first aid environments. An Authority must be held to obtain, possess, administer and supply these substances. Penalties apply for breaches against the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996 and regular monitoring is undertaken by Queensland Health Environmental Health Services.

The Queensland Health policy for "Drugs and Poisons at Island Resorts in Queensland" is intended to detail the process of ordering, storing and using a wide range of scheduled drugs and poisons in emergency situations with resort managers and nursing staff requiring appropriate approval from Queensland Health.

The policy will assist island resort management and nursing staff in Queensland to understand and comply with the requirements of the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996 as it relates to resort medical facilities.
