There are many venomous snakes in Tropical North Queensland. There are also some non-venomous species.

Snakes should never be approached or handled. Most snake bites happen when people are trying to catch, kill or handle a snake.

If a snake bite occurs:

Call 000 for an ambulance
Use the pressure-immobilisation technique
Ensure the patient is taken immediately to the nearest emergency department of the nearest hospital.
