Pharmacy ownership

The Council of Australian Governments at its meeting of 26 March 2008 signed an Intergovernmental Agreement on the creation of a single National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS) for health professionals.

The new scheme will create national profession-specific boards for ten health professions:

These national boards commence on 1 July 2010 and replace existing Queensland based Health Practitioner Registration Boards.

A function of the current Queensland Pharmacists Board is the retention of information on pharmacy business ownership in Queensland. This function will not translate to the NRAS and a decision has been made that, as an interim measure, these functions will be undertaken by the Drugs and Poisons Policy and Regulation Unit of Queensland Health.
