Description
Monthly counts of accrued patient days for Queensland Public Acute Hospitals.
Definition
The number of days or part days of stay accrued during the reference period. Days are accrued by admitted patients who underwent separation during the reference period or were remaining in the hospital at the end of the reference period. Same day patients are counted as having a stay of one day. Within the reference period, periods of leave are excluded where the patient was absent at midnight. The day of admission is included in the count if it occurred within the reference period. The day of separation is excluded.All episodes of care are counted except boarders, posthumous organ procurement and unqualified newborns.
Terminology
'Accrued patient days' are the total number of days that admitted patients spent in hospital during the reported time period.

Timeliness
Data are generally available 28 days after the completion of the reference month. If a hospital has not provided their data electronically before that time, then the monthly data for that hospital are imputed by an estimation process
