Data from the Monthly Activity Collection are provided by hospitals every month, and data are made available 28 days after the end of the month. If a hospital has not provided data for a particular month at the time of release, then estimated counts are presented for that hospital. Once data for that hospital becomes available, the estimated counts will be replaced by the actual counts.
The estimation process is based on the the four-month moving average.
It uses the following assumptions:
1. Counts were estimated when there was no data for a particular month and the average for the previous four months was greater than five (5).
2. Estimated counts are only used for the current financial year.
Although this estimation process is relatively basic, other more complex and complicated processes were found to offer little improvement in the accuracy of the estimates, and reduce the ease by which the estimation could be carried out.
All counts and proportions that have been estimated have been flagged by a "*" in both the HTML tables and EXCEL spreadsheets.
