Immunisation

Healthcare workers

Healthcare workers across a range of disciplines are encouraged to be immunised against certain diseases. This protects you and reduces the risk to both you and your patients. Vaccinations recommended differ depending on the type of patient care you provide. In some organisations, staff immunisation may be part of the workplace health and safety policy and/or a condition of employment.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) recommends the following vaccinations for healthcare workers (including students and those involved in patient care or the handling of human tissue):

See The Australian Immunisation Handbook – 9th Edition 2008 for more information on immunisation for healthcare workers. The Handbook also provides information on recommended vaccinations for staff of nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

Queensland Health staff can visit the Staff Protect website for more information on staff vaccinations.
